Gates Dualux Console
From Bob Mayben - "Russ Knight" operates this Dualux complete with tubes, and does a splendid oldies show every Saturday night on AM & FM. I can't say where, but it's in the south.
And here is a note from the owner. “The Dualux you have pictured is mine. This console was from a series known as "The High Watter" line. My Console was made on June 30th, 1954 (M 5236). The power supply is a model (M 5000). Quite different from the power supply, relay and monitor amp chassis of the later Dualux’s. If you will notice the rounded VU meters on my console that is a tell tale sign as to the vintage as the later models had square face plates. This console was employed at WKAX, later WATV in Birmingham,Alabama.
This console was in service when I retired it in 1977. How it lasted that long is a miracle as the technical personnel had gone cutter crazy. The GM of the station and I were good friends and I asked him to give it to me. He did and over the next 10 years in my spare time, out of a love for this piece of equipment and with Harris Corporation sending me the original blue prints, she came back to life in January 1987. Bob Mayben painted the console for me in 1978.”
All original wiring was replaced, along with modern caps and nos tubes, this console will pass the FCC proof in every way. I am listening to it as I write you.

And here is what the later version looked like. The Dualux is a dual program design, controlling two separate lines. You could run the AM on one program and the FM on the other. It has nine mixing channels, five microphone, two turntables, one remote and one network. It has 21 input circuits, seven for mic, four TT, five remotes, 1 network and four tape. Response is ± 1.5 db 30-15,000 cycles with distortion 1% or less. Noise -60 db or better. It’s 46.5 inches wide and weighs 205 pounds!
